Airfix 1/72 Focke-Wulf Fw190 A8/F8

This is the review of Airfix new mould Fw190 A8/F8.

The Fw 190 was one of the best Luftwaffe fighter airplanes of its time. It could be average on high altitude, but was excellent bellow 6000 m, having been uses both as a fighter and as a ground attack aircraft.

It was one of the first to prove that the drag caused by radial engines big frontal area could be overcome by a streamlined installation.

This is Airfix new mould Fw190A4/F8, and it is astonishing! it has beautiful details, nice landing gear wells, and it is easy to build.

Well, kind of easy… It is not that easy to join the fuselages together. they do fit, but the tolerance of the fit is very narrow: if you miss 1/10 of a mm, everything else will be troublesome to fit.

But despite that, it is pretty, and we have several versions to choose from.

One detail: when you fit the front engine part, you will see that there will be a bump between it and the fuselage… I sanded it off, as I thought it was an error from Airfix…

And I felt pretty dumb when I looked at pictures of the real one and it had that "bump"… So, leave it, its meant to be…

As a final remark, do get it, it’s an excellent model, even if one may struggle a little bit when joining the fuselage…
