Airfix 1/72 P51D (early) Mustang

This is the review of the Airfix 1/72 P51D (early) Mustang.

The Mustang has a strange story, as it only was successful after it had an engine implant... An American airplane frame with a British Merlin Engine.

After that, became the first one to be able to escort the bombers to Berlin and back.

This model kit is from Airfix recent moulds.

It is beautiful, with more detail than we can actually see.

The cockpit is nice, even if we cannot see all of it, the landing gear wells are perfect, and the air entry and exit are also perfect.

This is a proper P51D, which doesn't require much work to become a nice model kit. I have 2 of these, this one was modified to be an early p51D, as it can be seen on the missing fillet on the rudder.

All mustangs were upgraded later on with the fillet, as without it, when doing demanding manoeuvres, the rudder could snap. This is from the 308, like the first ones they received. I plan to do another one from the 308 with the later painting.

As a final remark, I must say that this is a very nice model, and a peaceful construction.
