Revell 1/144 Boeing 747SP PanAm (modified)

This is a modified model kit... Its a conventional 747-100/200, chopped off to be a 747SP

With the advent of the DC-10 and the tristar, Boeing realized it could do a smaller aircraft, as the airline companies also wanted a smaller airplane. However, the costs and time to develop a new aircraft was too much, and would loose ground to the trijets in final development. To scale down the 747 as a hypothesis whcih they've tried. The problem was that to modify it to take 2 engines of the wing and place 1 on the rudder would imply to develop the airplane from the start. So, they've kept the 4 engines, cutted down a few sections of the fuselage, simplify the flaps to single slot, and called it special performance (SP). In fact, it could carry less passengers in a longer distance, but the consumption was still higher than the competition. Nevertheless, it still has won its place on history, and it was used as an alternative, when the regular 747 was too big.

This is a modified Revell kit. The flaps farings were cutted, and replaced, as the SP had simple slot flaps. The fuselage was cutted and matched, while the rudder and stabiliser was increased.. Not that simple, but doable. Everything else is from the normal kit.
